Absurd Embroidery

The embroidered paper is a metaphor for the Rushnyk.
Rushnyk is a ritual Slavic towel embroidered with symbols and cryptograms and used mainly for religious services and ceremonial events such as weddings and funerals.
The first installation was embroidered during the "Toilet paper crisis" in 2020. The way people were suddenly overvaluing such a common and easily replaceable object made me rethink the dogmatic value of some historical pieces.
In this term, I used as an inspiration a special kind of Ukrainian Rushnyk "Dennik". In the Ukrainian tradition, it was believed to have a healing and supernatural power.
I applied the same transcendent concept to the toilet paper in the same way we invented its prior meaning. art
